Volunteering For Trumped
Can I volunteer for Trumped?
Yes! Trumped is expanding, so we can definitely use your help. If you’re interested in gaining great business experience, and having a load of fun at the same time, contact us and we will find a place for you on our team.
Trumped Teams
Can teams consist of members from different schools?
No. Members of the same team must be attending the same university, but teams can consist of students from any faculty.
Can teams consist of members that are on co-ops?
Yes. However, Trumped is a major time commitment, so please ensure that all members will have ample free time to contribute.
What if we can’t find a team?
Students are responsible for organizing their team. Teams must consist of at least two members and no more than four.
How many teams can compete?
Registration numbers have grown every year, and Trumped is growing along with them. However, due to the logistical concerns associated with managing large numbers of teams, this year the Trumped Committee has set a maximum of 125 teams. Register today to avoid disappointment.
How many teams go onto a new task?
During each task, the bottom half (50%) of participating teams will be eliminated. Judging criteria will vary depending on task content.
The Trumped Competition
I want the $10,000. How do I get it?
Each team is awarded points at the end of each event. If, after all three events, your team has the highest cumulative total, your team will be named “The Trumped Champion”. Winning the final task does not guarantee that you will be the overall champion.What is Trumped 2010?
Trumped 2010 is Nova Scotia’s largest undergraduate and graduate business competition. From January 27 – March 31 2010, five hundred students from thirteen universities and colleges will compete across the province in teams of two to four for the respected title of “2010 Trumped Champion” and the $10,000 cash grand prize.With hundreds of mentors, support personnel, and businesspeople expected to participate, as well as over one hundred volunteers and spectators, Trumped 2010 promises to be the most visible and most widely known recruiting opportunity in Nova Scotia.
Who can enter?
The 2010 Trumped Competition is open to all students currently completing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited Nova Scotia university, institution or college. Teams must consist of two to four members. Members of the same team must be attending the same university, but teams can consist of students from any faculty. Participation as a competitor of the competition from persons involved with any administrative aspects of the Trumped 2010 Competition is strictly prohibited.What is the deadline to register?

When and where will the competition take place?
The Trumped Competition will be hosted by Saint Mary’s University and will be held January 27- March 31, 2010. For boardroom dates click here.How is the competition structured?
The competition is structured on a point system. Each task will have a judging outline, and teams will be awarded points based on this. Teams will move on based on who has the highest points. At the end of the competition, points will be summed across all three tasks, and the team with the highest cumulative point score will be named the Trumped Champion.
How will our work and presentations be judged?
Judges will review your submissions and oral presentations. Judges are drawn from across the region and are selected for their extensive backgrounds in business development.What are the prizes?
The prize distributions are yet to be announced.
Are there prizes for each task?
Yes. There are prizes for winners in each task and a prize for the overall winner: $10,000Does it cost to participate?
Yes. However, the fee is only $10, and immediately after paying it teams are given a gift bag worth $50. We charge this nominal fee simply to ensure that those taking part in the competition are dedicated to winning the competition.
Can Trumped count for course work?
Yes. Talk to your marketing, design, entrepreneurship and business professors about Trumped! Many professors have agreed to make Trumped count for a portion of your grade or major project.
Briefcases & Boardrooms
What is with all this briefcase talk?
It’s quite simple: The Briefcase is the symbol that your team is the best, and you can prove it. If you win The Briefcase, you can count yourself among the top business students in Nova Scotia, and your team’s name will be mounted on the briefcase plaque for all to see.Will my travel and accommodation costs be covered?
We are currently seeking funding support to either partially or fully underwrite competitor travel costs. At present, travel and accommodation costs will not be covered by the Trumped 2010 competition organizers. Competing students are, however, encouraged to seek the support of their respective universities to offset competition-related travel expenses.What is a boardroom?
The Trumped boardroom is an exciting, high energy networking event where you will:- Learn about the tasks
- Hear from leading guest speakers
- Talk to sponsors looking to recruit
- See other teams’ work
- Receive recognition for your hard work. By the way, “recognition” means cash and prizes.
