About Us
MISSION
The Mission of Trumped is to:
Create real world experiences for young Canadians through charitable acts, entrepreneurial acts, and demonstrating outstanding leadership.
Working in partnership with businesses and higher education, Trumped delivers a college/university business competition in which students are provided real world experiences, allowing them to build their resumes and personal networks. Three years of investment and collaborative work have created a “Made in Nova Scotia” entrepreneurial opportunity for young Canadians encouraging teamwork, creativity, and leadership to help them prepare for the challenges of a global marketplace.
Trumped is a provincial non-profit organization that is creating real world experiences for young Canadians through charitable acts, entrepreneurial acts, and demonstrating outstanding leadership. Established in 2007, Trumped strives to preserve and promote entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs in Atlantic Canada.
HISTORY
2007
Trumped began in January 2007 as a project of the Saint Mary’s University chapter of the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) Society. It was intended to be a business competition for students, by students. Seventeen Saint Mary’s students split into two teams and set about promoting Noodle Nook and Milano’s, two recent business ventures of local entrepreneur Ron Lovett. The inaugural competition proved successful and provided an excellent foothold from which we have been able to grow substantially.2008
In 2008, EQ Media partnered with SIFESMU and the SMUBDC to take Trumped to a new level. With a goal of bridging the gap between business and ambitious students, the Trumped committee created a three-month-long competition that gave students the chance to apply their skills to real world scenarios. The Trumped Committee’s organization and collection of sponsors drew 17 teams (in the neighborhood of 60 students) from SMU and Dalhousie University, raising $19,900 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The next challenge brought attention to a thriving new company in Halifax (Jockface.com), and the last challenge was a $100,000 World Hockey Championship campaign judged by Molson executives. Trumped provided more than 100 students the opportunity to raise and manage funds, develop and compete with their financial plans, and win financial awards.
